Tea’s fifth birthday

December 7, 2006

Is tomorrow - so I’ve made her these to take to school with her. :)

They’ve turned out so well, I’m going to make another batch except using the tree and star cutters for festive fayre! :)

Assessment

Whilst showering yesterday morning, I looked down at the bump and thought, hmm, that looks compact today. Sure enough, I get to the midwife at 10am, and she measures my 34week bump at 31 cm. Exactly the same height as three weeks ago. After a few moments hmming over my notes, she rings the AnteNatal Assessment Unit (ANAU) and gets them to slot me in asap for monitoring and possibly a scan to check why bump hasn’t grown. I had already mentioned to her that I was a tad concerned that I’d been the same weight for five weeks now - that very morning, I’d weighed myself and found I’d gain a pound for the first time since the beginning of last month!

Luckily it was James’ day off, Piglet was at preschool, Myf was at school, but Tea was off with a soaring temp and cough. He dropped me off at the hospital and went off to run some errands with Tea. I wandered in, took a seat and was shortly seen by a very nice senior midwife who raised an eyebrow at me as she looked over my bump. When she measured me, it read 36cm.

Bloody awkward bump. But just to be sure, she sent me off for a scan. They measured femur length, abdomen, head and another one, plus the amount of amniotic fluid or liquor that is around the baby. Femur and other measurement were just above the 50th centile - abdomen and head were on the 90th. Gee thanks, another big baby, just what I needed to know.

However, they’re concerned about the low levels of fluid - apparently I’m right on the very bottom of the bottom line on the chart, so I have to go in again next week for another LV (liquor volume) scan. Scans at this point are very cool though - you can see some amazing detail. Didn’t see the sex though, which I’m quite pleased about. Made sure I told the radiographer or whoever was doing it that we didn’t know, just in case she saw something and said ‘he’ or ’she’.

Off to google low liquor volume and wade through the alcholic websites until I find out what/why and wherefore low levels of amniotic fluid are a problem.
