Love this time of year

December 2, 2006

It’s time to start planning my garden, and I’m having such fun already! And next year I won’t be pregnant for the majority of the growing season and the smell of tomatoes isn’ going to make me barf to the extent that I have to stay out of the greenhouse and I’ll be able to dig past mid June… it’s all so exciting.

So much so that I’ve gone slightly OTT with the seed potatoes I have seven varieties in my virtual basket at Alan Romans, and have just realised that as I’ve given up one of my allotments (two plots plus a garden is a bit excessive, especially with a newborn) I’m not going to have the room to plant them! Wahhhh….

I’m not going to place my order just yet though - I’ve decided to wait and go to the Potato Day at Ryton at the end of Jan, and get some different sorts there. I’ll probably order first and second earlies, as you have to chit those, but my maincrops I’ll get from Ryton.

Have spent the evening drawing up garden plans and browsing seed catalogues - although I’ve already received the ones I ordered from Vida Verde. :) They’re lovely there, and their seeds are fab (you get huge quantities) and they’re very friendly and have some great varieties… I’ve used them for a few years now and can’t recommend them enough. Plus they’re a small, independant and ethical seed saving company who are keeping open pollinated varieties alive.

However, it’s off to bed now, as it’s Tea’s party tomorrow - she’s having a joint one with one of her little classmates and it’s basically just the class coming. Which is a good job as that’s 18 of them (9 reception class and 9 nursery) plus most have at least one sibling… we’re having a bouncy castle in the local hall and I’ve got to finish the food off in the morning. I am soooo glad my Mom is here.
